The Adidas Azteca Mexico was the official match ball of the 1986 FIFA World Cup held in Mexico. It was the first fully synthetic FIFA World Cup ball, and it had a design inspired by the native Aztec architecture and murals. The ball was named after the Aztecs, who were a powerful civilization that dominated parts of Mexico from the 14th to the 16th centuries. The ball had 32 panels and a polyurethane coating that improved its water resistance and durability.
